The District Magistrate and Collector of South Goa has issued an or der mandating strict tenant verification and enhanced security measures across the district. As per the order, all own ers of houses, buildings, flats, and other residential premises, as well as owners and managements of ho tels, lodges, shacks, private guest houses, paying guest facilities, and religious in stitutions offering tempo rary accommodation, must verify the identity of ten ants and guests. Acceptable documents for verification include Election Cards, Driving Licenses, Aadhaar Cards, Passports, Smart Cards, or any other valid proof of identity. The order further states that no landlord, tenant, or property owner within the territorial jurisdiction of South Goa should rent, sub let, or lease out any premises without first furnishing the particulars of the occupants to the Officer-in-Charge of the concerned police station. Those managing such premises are also required to make records available for inspection by the police or any authority authorized by the District Magistrate. Additionally, all heads of nationalized banks in South Goa have been directed to ensure round-the-clock se curity at their ATMs. Banks must deploy security guards and install CCTV cameras or Electronic Surveillance Systems (ESS) equipped with panic buttons, hooters, two-way communication systems, and remote moni toring facilities. Violation of the order is punishable under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
