J&K Schools Told to Monitor Stray Dogs; Teachers Directed to Assist in Canine Management Following SC Order

Teachers across government and private schools in Jammu and Kashmir have been instructed to monitor and report stray dog activity as part of a broader directive on the “management of stray dogs.”

J&K Education Minister Sakina Itoo said the order may have been issued in response to a Supreme Court directive that calls for improved management of stray dogs, particularly around sensitive areas such as schools and hospitals.

“There is a Supreme Court direction on management of stray dogs, removing them from schools and hospitals. I think the orders may have been issued in compliance with the SC order,” Ms. Itoo stated.

The directive has sparked discussion among educators and parents, with many seeking clarity on the role teachers are expected to play in managing stray animals on school premises.
