St Anthony FC book semi-finals berth

RAIA: St Anthony Football Club, Assolda, scrapped past Shiroda Youth Club 5-4 via tie-breaker to march into the semi-finals of Fr Agnelo Inter-Village Football Tournament organised by Fr Agnelo Sports and Cultural Club, Paroda, at the panchayat ground, Avedem, on Monday.
In the fast-paced quarter-final encounter, Shiroda Youth Club opened the scoring when Reaphan Antao dribbled past the St Anthony Football Club defenders and netted a brilliant goal in the 18th minute.
St Anthony Football Club thereafter launched repeated attacks on the rival goal, but the strong Shiroda YC defence stood firm. However, in the dying minutes of the match, St Anthony Football Club finally found the equaliser through Alton Vaz, whose powerful long-range strike crashed into the net.
At the end of regulation time, the teams settled for 1-1 draw.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Vitorino Fernandes, Flizer Gomes, Reagan Costa and Sheldon Fernandes scored for St Anthony FC, while Royston Vaz, Placito Cruz and Climax Fernandes converted for Shiroda Youth Club.
