CANACONA: Chapoli Dam in Canacona reached its full capacity for the first time in mid-July, which otherwise would normally overflow in August.
According to available data, Chapoli Dam has started to overflow after receiving a rainfall of 2,008 mm till Wednesday. Last year, the dam had reached its full capacity on August 7 after the taluka received seasonal rainfall of 2146.4 mm.
WRD sources informed that they witnessed a rise in the water level since last few days due to the heavy rainfall and the dam finally rose to its full capacity and overflowed on Wednesday.
When the reservoir is full, the water flows through the spillway into a canal leading to a stream.
and many locals as well as tourists visit the dam to catch the scenic view of the Chapoli hills and the overflowing spillway.
However, this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been very few people visiting the dam, informed Chapoli locals.
