Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Tuesday claimed that the migrant influx into the state has been effectively curbed over the past five years under his leadership, attributing the change to welfare schemes and employment initiatives introduced for Goan youth.
Sawant said that various schemes launched by the BJP-led Goa government, including skill development and apprenticeship programmes, have enabled local youth to secure jobs that were earlier taken up by migrants. According to him, the increased participation of Goan youth in these initiatives has ensured greater employment opportunities for locals.

While acknowledging that migrants from other Indian states as well as Nepal had earlier come to Goa in search of work, the Chief Minister asserted that this trend has now stopped. He maintained that the benefits availed by Goan youth through government schemes have helped reduce dependence on migrant labour.
The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s focus on empowering local youth through targeted welfare and employment programmes, stating that these measures have played a key role in strengthening the local workforce and addressing employment concerns in the state.
