Four Arrested in Margao Masjid Murder Case; More Accused Likely, Says South Goa SP

South Goa Superintendent of Police Tikam Singh Verma (IPS) on Wednesday said that four alleged accused have been arrested so far in connection with the fatal murder that took place at the Sunni Gulasthan Masjid in Margao on Tuesday.

The SP informed that further investigation is underway and the number of arrests could increase as the probe progresses. He added that police are examining all angles linked to the crime.

Meanwhile, close relatives of the victim, Mohammed Ali Khan, have alleged that they received threats over mobile phone calls from one of the accused who has already been arrested. Verma said this serious allegation is also being thoroughly investigated by the police.

Preliminary findings suggest that the murder stemmed from a suspected internal rivalry within the Masjid committee. In view of the ongoing investigation, the SP confirmed that the Sunni Gulasthan Masjid will continue to remain sealed until the probe is completed.

Police have assured that strict action will be taken against all those found involved in the case.
