The naked and decomposed body of a 24-year-old MBA student was discovered on Friday inside a rented house belonging to her classmate in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Police said rope marks were found around her neck, suggesting that she was strangled to death.
Investigators revealed that around the time of the crime, a video showing a sexual act was circulated in the college’s WhatsApp group from the victim’s mobile phone. The woman’s face was clearly visible in the clip, while the face of the other person was concealed using emojis. Officials suspect that the unidentified person in the video is the classmate in whose residence the body was found, who was also reportedly her boyfriend.
According to police, the victim was a first-year MBA student at an institute located on Sanwer Road. On Tuesday, she had accompanied her father to get corrections made to her birth certificate. Later that evening, she informed her family that she would be attending a birthday party with a classmate, Piyush Dhanotia, and would return home by 11 pm.
When she failed to return, her family became worried. It was later learned that the objectionable video had been posted to the college WhatsApp group the same night she went missing.
Police have launched a detailed investigation into the case and are questioning the classmate in connection with the murder. Further probe is underway to establish the sequence of events and motive behind the crime.
