In heartbreaking news, Indian cricketer Rinku Singh has lost his father, Khanchand Singh, after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was admitted to Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida on February 21 and had been on ventilator support for the past few days before passing away early this morning, hospital officials confirmed.
Rinku, who was recently part of India’s T20 World Cup campaign in Chennai, had flown to be with his ailing father earlier this week and rejoined the squad before the match against Zimbabwe. Though left out of the playing XI for tactical reasons, he appeared as a substitute fielder.
Several cricketers, including Virat Kohli and Harbhajan Singh, expressed condolences. Khanchand Singh had long supported Rinku’s cricket dreams despite financial hardships. The last rites are expected to take place in Aligarh.
