My heart bleats for the teacher of the High School in Keri-Sattari, against whom an FIR was lodged at Valpoi Police Station. Parents need to be understand that teaching is a noble profession and hence teachers are a part of the noble fraternity. Teachers are the persons who mould our children into good social human beings to be worthy members of our society.

In the course of moulding 30 to 40 students in a class, there comes a time when the teacher has to reprimand a student for his/her untoward behavior, lack of concentration on studies and may even punish the student but all for the future good of the student with  malice to none.

Parents, who have filed an FIR against the teacher should first introspect and admit, how tough they find at times to manage just two or three of their own children at home, especially when they are up to pranks, and imagine themselves to be in the shoes of the teachers, who have to deal with 30 to 40 students. Such parents should withdraw their children from high schools and engage private tutors at home for their children rather than maligning those in the noble profession.

It is shocking to read of a tiger turning man-eater in the villages bordering the State of Karnataka and that it was relocated in the Khanapur taluka of Belgaum which is very close to Goa (Herald December 27). The tiger reportedly killed a woman and ate half the body after killing a horse. The tiger is reported to have killed another woman while people were harvesting their crops. The very fact that the tiger has eaten half of the woman’s body proves that it has turned into a man-eater and needs to be put to “sleep” as early as possible before it preys on more people and animals. The fact that the tiger has been spotted in the wildlife sanctuary close to the Goan border makes it possible for the killer tiger to stray into Goan territory. Hence the Goa forest officials need to be in constant contact with their counterparts in Karnataka in order to keep track of the movement of the man-eater and put it to “sleep”. Tigers are normally docile animals and will attack only if provoked. It would be interesting to find out, if possible, as to what circumstances turned this particular tiger into a man-eater.

The Union government should have the data of the country’s citizens in one single format based on statistics collected from the Aadhar cards rather than having in multiple forms such as Aadhar card, voter cards and National Population Register. Aadhar cards should be made a compulsory for every citizen for all practical purposes like having a passport, ration card, LPG gas connection, bank accounts and every such facility used by any citizen.

For infants and children below a certain age, say below ten years, Aadhar cards can be issued with photos, signatures or thumb impressions of parents. For school-going children Aadhar cards can be issued by sending teams in schools. Thereafter voters’ lists can be prepared from database prepared from statistics of Aadhar cards. 

Kudos to K B Dessai for asking “Why no Bharat Ratna for Kailash Satyarthi?” (December 27). India flaunts its “elitism” by placing a space ship in the Mars orbit! But that epitome of divinity named Kailash Satyarthi’s noble fight and work have blatantly exposed India’s dark scandals like child labour and slavery. Nepal welcomed Satyarthi with open arms and honoured him with utmost respect for his act of rescuing innumerable Nepalese girls from the clutches of circus owners by endangering his own life. India should learn from Nepal what indebtness, gratitude and awarding due respect to greats is all about.

The Congress party is struggling to find space in many States. The eradication of the Congress from the national space is dangerous for the country, but the party failed to prove its leadership. With improving literacy and education in India, Indians are no longer blind followers of the Gandhi-Nehru family. The election results of the last two years have proved Indians are now voting against family raj. The Congress leadership needs to be changed or the BJP and RSS will succeed in their hidden agenda. Already December 25, 2014, an international holiday, has been declared as Good Governance day. Today the media and economy is controlled by industrialists, and the highest level of corruption prevails in most government offices, rapes are on rise, we have had horrific incidents of two churches being vandalised, forcible conversions have taken place. With such incidents on rise, the definition of good governance is understood.
