Lucas Lobo died nearly 10 days after the Vasco escort police admitted him to T B Hospital at St Inez for treatment.
The 28-year-old Karnataka native was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl from Tamil Nadu at the Sky bus platform near the Margao railway station in May 2013. After being on the run, the Margao police had arrested him .
In January this year, two constables Satish Gaonkar and Rohit Kholkar had to face suspension when the alleged rapist, who was then admitted in ward number 136 at GMC on medical grounds, escaped. He was traced later and arrested.
As per the charge sheet, the labourer staying at Gandhi market had taken the girl from Margao market by a rickshaw and alighted near Deccan Tyres, opposite Rajendra Prasad Stadium, Calconda from where he took the girl to the sky bus platform and allegedly raped her. He was since then lodged at Sada sub-jail and was to be produced before the local court during trials.
His death has been informed to his family members, Mormugao police that registered a case of unnatural death said.
