Chief Minister Pramod Sawant assured the Goa Legislative Assembly that the state government will not allow any expansion of coal handling activities at Goa’s ports. Responding to concerns raised in the House, the Chief Minister clarified that no new ports will be permitted for coal handling and that the existing limits on coal operations will remain unchanged.
Sawant also informed the Assembly that the draft Coastal Zone Management Plan 2019 is currently under departmental consultation. Once the internal review is completed, the plan will be opened for public consultation after incorporating inputs from the Captain of Ports.
The Chief Minister further reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the state’s natural resources, particularly its rivers. He said the government remains determined to ensure that Goa’s rivers are protected and continue to belong to the people of Goa.
