Speaking after the visit, Vaz stressed the need for authorities to identify the exact source of the contamination and take immediate corrective action.

Parish Priest Fr Kenneth Teles revealed that a strong smell had been emanating from the area for the past 15 days. He said the matter was brought to the MLA’s attention on Sunday after the situation worsened.

In a disturbing development, locals tested water drawn from the well and were shocked to find that it could catch fire, indicating the presence of fuel.

Authorities are expected to carry out further investigations to determine the cause and prevent any potential hazard to public health and the environment.
