PANJIM: Stating that the Chief Minister has failed to do justice with the Home department, Siolim MLA Vinod Palyekar urged that the Home ministry be handed over to a “capable” minister like Michael Lobo.
While addressing mediapersons, he alleged the drugs business is flourishing all over coastal areas. “Rave parties have increased and it looks like the government is non-existent as there is no control over this illegal business,” he said. Palyekar added that the govt’s inaction gives an impression that it’s supporting the drugs business.
“My request to the government is that this illicit business should be stopped to protect the future of our youth. This business is not only restricted to coastal areas but has spread across Goa,” he said.
Palyekar said CM Pramod Sawant had stated that he should be informed if there is any drug business happening, based on which quick action would be taken.
“I have given him all the details of where the drug business is going on and also marked copies to all the departments concerned but till date there has been no action,” he said.
The CM, he said, has failed on the issue of handling drugs and added that the CM should look out for the future of Goa’s youth.
“The CM has failed and now it’s time he hands the Home Ministry over to a capable minister,” he said.
Asked who he feels is capable, Palyekar said, the Minister from the coastal area, Michael Lobo can do justice to the portfolio.
“He knows the areas and tourism sector very well and I feel he will do justice to such menace,” Palyekar said.
He further added that the organisers of drug parties are flouting the rules buy just taking permissions for sound and music up to 10 pm. “Though they have music till 10 pm, the parties are on till early morning. The authorities must stop giving such permissions,” he said.
