Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan visited the CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography in Panaji and emphasized the vital role oceans play in India’s economic progress, energy security, trade, and environmental sustainability. Addressing scientists, researchers, and students, he highlighted the immense opportunities presented by India’s extensive coastline through the blue economy and scientific innovation. He also drew attention to pressing challenges, including climate change, rising sea levels, marine pollution, biodiversity loss, and microplastic contamination, urging responsible research and timely action. Praising CSIR-NIO for its contributions to marine science, he acknowledged national initiatives such as the Deep Ocean Mission, Blue Economy programmes, and the Green Hydrogen Mission. Encouraging young researchers to pursue innovation with confidence, he stressed their role in shaping India’s future. During the visit, he toured laboratories, viewed exhibits, and released a commemorative publication.
