Residents of Maina village in Curtorim have intensified their opposition to a proposed multi-dwelling housing project, reaffirming their determination to continue the campaign even after a scheduled hearing on the matter was adjourned.
A large gathering of villagers assembled at the Matany Saldanha Administrative Complex in Margao for the hearing of an appeal filed by the Curtorim Village Panchayat against the Salcete Block Development Officer’s decision granting permission for the housing project. However, the proceedings were postponed before the hearing could take place.

The adjournment left many residents disappointed, but villagers said it had only strengthened their resolve to oppose the development. They announced that they would attend the next hearing in even larger numbers to make their objections clear.
Local residents have voiced concerns that the proposed large-scale housing project could place additional pressure on existing infrastructure, strain natural resources and adversely affect the environmental and ecological balance of the village.
Community members also stressed that their movement is aimed at safeguarding the long-term interests of Maina and preserving the character of the village for future generations. They reiterated their commitment to continuing the agitation until their concerns are adequately addressed by the authorities.
The opposition to the project reflects growing public concern over the impact of large residential developments on rural communities and the need for sustainable and planned growth in the region.
