Villagers and supporters opposing the proposed Karapur project staged a protest in Panjim on Friday, surprising authorities by changing their demonstration venue at the last moment as part of the ongoing “Save Karapur” movement.
The protesters had initially announced that they would assemble at the Directorate of Panchayats. Anticipating a large gathering, police deployed significant personnel and security arrangements at the location.

However, in an unexpected move, the demonstrators bypassed the Directorate of Panchayats and marched directly to the Town and Country Planning (TCP) office, catching the authorities off guard and rendering the earlier security deployment ineffective.
The protest, organised under the banner of the “Save Karapur” movement, saw villagers and supporters raising their opposition to the proposed project and voicing concerns over its potential impact on the area.
Despite the sudden change in venue, the demonstration proceeded peacefully, with protesters gathering outside the TCP office to press their demands and call for action from the authorities.
The protest reflects the continuing resistance from local residents and activists, who have been campaigning against the Karapur project and urging the government to address their concerns.
