The Goa government has filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) before the Supreme Court challenging the Bombay High Court’s August 6 order granting premature release to three convicts in the 2006 Mandar Surlakar murder case. The three men were sentenced to life imprisonment following their conviction in the case. Through its petition, the state government has sought to overturn the High Court’s decision allowing their early release. The matter will now come before the Supreme Court for consideration. The government’s move marks a challenge to the High Court ruling and seeks judicial review of the decision to grant premature release to the three life convicts.
