A massive boulder rolled down a hillside and crashed into a house belonging to Pramodini Naik at Voddant in Vasco on Tuesday, causing significant damage to the structure. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
Following the incident, personnel from the Vasco Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot and assessed the situation.
Reacting to the incident, Vasco Congress leader and ward councillor Nandadeep Raut alleged that repeated representations had been made to the government over the past several years seeking the construction of a retaining wall in the area to prevent such incidents. However, he claimed that no action had been taken despite the repeated requests.
Raut criticised the BJP government, accusing it of neglecting the concerns of local residents. He alleged that the government was more focused on “videography and photography” of BJP functions involving MLAs than on addressing the safety issues faced by people living in vulnerable areas.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the stability of the hillside and the need for preventive measures to safeguard residents, particularly during the monsoon season. Residents have urged the authorities to take immediate steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.
