Vasco MLA and BJP spokesperson Krishna Salkar on Tuesday asserted that Dabolim Airport will continue to remain operational, while dismissing recent assurances by South Goa MP Capt. Viriato Fernandes as a “publicity stunt” ahead of the upcoming Goa Assembly elections.
Speaking after inaugurating road development works worth over ₹10 crore at Sasmolem in Baina, Salkar alleged that the Congress was attempting to create confusion among the public through misleading statements regarding the future of Dabolim Airport.

He claimed that the issue had already been addressed, stating that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and other state ministers had secured an assurance from Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh regarding the airport’s continued operations. According to Salkar, there was no need for another assurance from the Centre.
Criticising the Congress, Salkar accused the party of following an “old strategy” of obstructing development by creating doubts among the public, destabilising confidence and encouraging protests instead of supporting development initiatives.
Expressing confidence ahead of the Assembly polls, Salkar said that despite the Congress’ efforts, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would win more than 30 seats in the forthcoming Goa Assembly elections.
The remarks were made during the launch of road infrastructure works valued at over ₹10 crore in the Sasmolem-Baina area of Vasco.
