A shocking case has emerged from Uttar Pradesh’s Agra district, where a man allegedly attempted to poison his mother after his mother-in-law reportedly told him that his wife would not return unless he “removed” his mother. The incident took place on July 9 in Barpura village under the Pinahat police station limits.
According to the FIR, the accused, identified as Ravindra, allegedly mixed a poisonous substance into a serving of chole and served it to his mother, Rammoorti, at around 3 pm. Shortly after consuming the food, the woman fell seriously ill and was rushed to a hospital, where she continues to receive treatment.

The complaint was lodged by Rammoorti’s husband, Ranveer Singh, who alleged that Ravindra later admitted the poison had been supplied by his mother-in-law, Phoolwati. According to the complaint, Phoolwati had called Ravindra to her village and handed him a packet containing the toxic substance. She allegedly told him that her daughter would not return to his home unless his mother was killed.
Police said these claims are still under investigation and are yet to be independently verified.
Meanwhile, Ravindra’s brother Mukesh claimed that the family had been facing internal disputes over property and that Ravindra’s wife had been staying at her parental home for some time.
Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against Ravindra and Phoolwati under Sections 61, 109 and 123 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Ravindra has been arrested, while further investigation is underway.
Officials said medical and forensic examination reports, along with other evidence, will determine the next course of action. Police are also probing the alleged role of the mother-in-law and the circumstances that led to the incident.
