Lok Sabha MP Capt. Viriato Fernandes handed over a new school bus to New Dawn Ashadeep Special School at Headland Sada in Mormugao under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) Fund of the Government of India.
Speaking to reporters, Capt. Fernandes clarified that the bus was not a personal donation but was provided through the MPLADS Fund, which is financed using taxpayers’ money. He noted that the parents of the special children are also contributors to these public funds.
The MP said the responsibility of elected representatives is to ensure that public funds are directed towards areas where they are most needed, particularly for the welfare of vulnerable sections of society.
Emphasising the importance of supporting children with special needs, Capt. Fernandes said they may not constitute a vote bank, but it remains the duty of public representatives to address their requirements. He added that providing such facilities will help empower the students, enabling them to become more self-reliant and responsible citizens.
