Olympic medallists Mirabai Chanu and Lovlina Borgohain have been chosen to lead the Indian contingent at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) announced on Saturday that Mirabai will serve as India’s flag bearer, while Lovlina will carry the ceremonial King’s Baton.
The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place at the OVO Hydro on July 23, marking the official start of India’s campaign at the Games.

IOA president PT Usha congratulated the two Olympians on receiving the honour and expressed confidence in the entire Indian contingent. She said it was a matter of pride that Mirabai and Lovlina would perform the ceremonial duties during the opening ceremony and wished all Indian athletes success in Glasgow.
Mirabai Chanu, who won a silver medal in weightlifting at the Tokyo Olympics, will carry the Tricolour during the athletes’ parade. Lovlina Borgohain, India’s bronze medallist in boxing from the Tokyo Games, will carry the King’s Baton during the ceremony.
The selection recognises the duo’s achievements on the international stage and their contributions to Indian sport. Both athletes have consistently represented India at major global events, including the Olympics, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
India will be hoping for another successful campaign at the Commonwealth Games, with several medal contenders featuring across disciplines. The opening ceremony will officially launch the country’s quest for podium finishes in Glasgow.
