The Goa government has transferred approximately 4.65 lakh square metres of land to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Goa for the establishment of its permanent campus at Farmagudi, marking a major milestone in the long-pending project.
IIT Goa has been operating from a temporary campus at Goa Engineering College since its inception in 2016. To support the institute’s future expansion, an additional two lakh square metres of private land will also be acquired.

Officials confirmed that the land transfer was completed two days ago, paving the way for the next phase of the project. The acquisition process for the remaining private land is expected to begin shortly.
Once the required land is secured, the permanent campus will be developed with academic and research facilities, student hostels, faculty housing, sports infrastructure and other amenities envisioned under the institute’s master plan.
The land transfer is expected to accelerate the development of IIT Goa’s permanent campus, providing the institute with the infrastructure needed to expand its academic and research activities in the coming years.
