A three-day Hockey India Coaching Educational Pathway Workshop commenced in Goa on Wednesday, bringing together hockey coaches, physical education teachers and aspiring trainers to strengthen coaching standards and promote the sport’s development in the state.
Organised by Goans Hockey in collaboration with Hockey India, the workshop is being held from July 23 to 25 and focuses on equipping participants with modern coaching techniques, technical expertise and internationally recognised training methodologies.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Ajay Gaude, Director of Sports and Executive Director of the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG), who attended the event as the chief guest. Also present were Raju Pawar, Assistant Director of SAG, office bearers of the Goans Hockey Association, senior coaches, former players and hockey enthusiasts from across Goa.
Addressing the participants, Dr Gaude highlighted the importance of continuous coach education in nurturing skilled mentors and producing high-quality athletes. He lauded Hockey India and Goans Hockey for organising the initiative and urged participants to embrace contemporary coaching practices to further strengthen hockey in Goa.
The technical sessions are being led by Abhishek Mishra, Hockey India Educator, former Indian national hockey player, FIH Hockey Developer and FIH Level 4 and Goalkeeper Coach. The sessions cover key areas such as modern coaching methodologies, player development, tactical and technical aspects of the game, and globally recognised coaching standards.
The workshop has drawn participants from across the state and is expected to significantly enhance the quality of hockey coaching while contributing to the long-term growth of the sport in Goa.
