Margao Comunidade Components Oppose New President’s Appointment, Allege Political Interference

The Components of the Margao Comunidade held a meeting on Saturday to deliberate on several issues concerning the functioning of the Comunidade, with the appointment of a new President emerging as the key point of discussion.

During the meeting, members strongly objected to the appointment made following the resignation of elected President Savio Correia. They alleged that the newly appointed President is not eligible to hold the post under the applicable rules governing the Comunidade.

The Components claimed they had raised their objections with the concerned government authorities, pointing out the alleged ineligibility of the appointee. However, they said their representations were ignored and the recommendation of the Managing Committee was not taken into consideration before the appointment was made.

Condemning the government’s decision, the members resolved to continue their efforts to seek justice and ensure that the appointment process adheres to the prescribed legal provisions.

The Components also alleged that local political interests were attempting to gain control over the Margao Comunidade and its land. They expressed concern over what they described as efforts to facilitate the regularisation of illegal structures on Comunidade property, urging the authorities to safeguard the institution and protect its assets from undue interference.
