Former India batter Robin Uthappa has now drawn a remarkable comparison between Sooryavanshi and Australian great Sir Donald Bradman. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Uthappa said it is still too early to judge the teenager’s long-term success, as bowlers are only beginning to understand how to bowl to him.
He pointed out that Bradman’s dominance forced opponents to introduce the famous Bodyline tactic and noted that Sooryavanshi’s batting technique shares similarities with the legendary Australian, particularly his ability to avoid getting trapped leg before wicket.
Uthappa added that if the youngster can consistently average in the high 40s while maintaining his aggressive strike rate, he would qualify as a genuine cricketing “outlier.” He also reflected on Bradman’s career, wondering whether the Australian icon could have maintained his extraordinary average had World War II not interrupted his career.
According to Uthappa, modern cricket has become more accepting of unconventional techniques, allowing naturally gifted players to thrive without conforming to traditional batting methods.
He cited former India captain MS Dhoni as an example of a player who succeeded with a unique style before adding that Sooryavanshi appears to be following a similar path. At the same time, he acknowledged that technically accomplished batters like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill continue to flourish with their own distinct approaches.
