Ahead of the commencement of the fishing season on August 1, Velim MLA Cruz Silva inspected the Cutbona Fishing Jetty and called for urgent measures to address safety and infrastructure concerns before fishing operations resume.
During the inspection, Silva highlighted the unsafe condition of the river mouth, inadequate sanitation facilities and the shortage of registered labourers at the jetty. He urged the Fisheries Department to take immediate steps to eliminate navigation hazards and ensure the safety of fishermen venturing out to sea.

The MLA also stressed the need to repair the toilet facilities and improve overall hygiene at the fishing jetty, stating that basic amenities should be in place before the new fishing season begins.
Silva further called on the authorities to ensure that all necessary arrangements are completed without delay so that fishermen can commence operations smoothly and safely from August 1.
The annual fishing season resumes after the 61-day monsoon fishing ban, with jetties across Goa preparing for increased activity as trawlers and fishing vessels return to sea.
