The Bankipur Assembly seat in Bihar has traditionally been a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) bastion, with the party remaining undefeated in the constituency. The seat fell vacant after former MLA and BJP president Nitin Nabin was elected to the Rajya Sabha.
