Seven buffaloes died after coming into contact with a live electrical current at Santamoddi in Chinchinim, causing an estimated loss of ₹7–8 lakh to local farmers.
According to the affected farmers, they had repeatedly brought the issue of a faulty electrical wire in the area to the attention of the Electricity Department. However, they alleged that despite their complaints, no corrective action was taken.
The farmers said the incident could have been prevented had the faulty wire been repaired in time. They have now demanded immediate action by the authorities and sought compensation for the loss of their livestock.
The incident has also raised concerns over the safety of electrical infrastructure in the area, with farmers urging the department to inspect and rectify the faulty wiring to prevent similar incidents in the future.
