Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has hailed the Harvalem Panchayat as an example for other local bodies in Goa, highlighting its initiatives in sanitation, renewable energy and sustainable rural development under the ‘Swayampurna Goa’ programme.
Sawant said Harvalem Panchayat has once again received an award under the ‘Swayampurna Goa’ initiative and urged other panchayats to emulate its projects, including ‘Zero Net’ initiatives, pink dustbins and rooftop solar energy installations.

Harvalem has become the first panchayat in Goa to implement rooftop solar energy projects across all households and introduce pink dustbins for sanitary waste disposal. Sawant also inaugurated door-to-door collection of sanitary waste, a solar panel project and other social welfare initiatives in the area.
Sawant also announced plans for a new three-storey panchayat building. He said that due to the unavailability of land, existing government-owned structures would be demolished to make way for the new building, with the foundation stone to be laid before the upcoming Assembly elections.
Sarpanch Gauravi Naik said the panchayat’s progress had been made possible largely due to the support extended by Sawant to its various initiatives.
