Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Chirag Paswan has received an anonymous death threat claiming that he will be “killed shortly by hardcore terrorists”. The warning was delivered via an unsigned communication received by his ministry, which included two contact numbers alongside the direct threat to his life.
Following the receipt of the message, Paswan’s additional private secretary submitted an official letter to the Home Secretary to highlight the serious risk to the minister’s safety. The communication emphasized that the nature of the message—specifically the explicit reference to “hardcore terrorists”—raises severe concerns regarding his personal security during upcoming public engagements. Copies of the request were dispatched to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Bihar state government.

Paswan’s office requested an immediate and comprehensive investigation to verify the origin and authenticity of the letter. Additionally, the office urged authorities to conduct a prompt review of his security arrangements to determine if his current protection needs to be augmented. Paswan is currently guarded under a nationwide Z-category security cover.
The threat emerges amidst political friction within the ruling coalition. Paswan recently demanded the resignations of Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) founder Jitan Ram Manjhi and Bihar Minister Santosh Kumar Suman over their calls to review Scheduled Caste (SC) reservations. Paswan publicly argued that reservations represent a constitutional guarantee against historical discrimination rather than an economic benefit subject to periodic revision. In response, Manjhi rejected the demand and suggested that Paswan should resign for failing to grasp their position regarding Dalit welfare.
Authorities have initiated procedural reviews following the formal submission to security agencies.
