New Delhi: The Supreme Court has ordered the quashing of FIRs registered against protesters in connection with the July 20 Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protests, providing relief to students and other demonstrators facing cases.
The court directed that FIRs registered against protesters between July 20 and 25 across states and Union Territories be quashed, with an exception for individuals who have criminal antecedents.

The order followed an assurance from the Centre that cases registered in connection with the July 20 protest would be withdrawn and that no fresh cases would be filed over the same demonstration.
The Supreme Court, however, allowed the Delhi Police to proceed with one FIR involving 2,873 individuals who were present at the Jantar Mantar protest and were identified as having serious criminal antecedents.
Following the court’s order, the CJP withdrew its proposed September 5 protest march in Delhi.
