PANAJI: Goa Forward Party president and Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardesai has criticised the state government over the condition of Goa’s education system, saying students being forced to take to the streets to demand teachers was a matter of shame for the state.
Sardesai said the government was moving ahead with a proposed university bill while the basic education system was struggling with issues such as teacher shortages.
“Students have come on the streets for teachers. This is the biggest shame for Goa,” Sardesai said.
He also accused the BJP-led government of bringing politics into the education system, describing the alleged interference as detrimental to the state.
Sardesai questioned the government’s priorities, saying it was contradictory to focus on introducing major higher-education reforms while schools continued to face basic problems.
He urged the government to address the immediate concerns affecting students and strengthen the education system rather than allowing political considerations to influence education.
