A case of abetment to suicide has been registered against IIT Bombay professor Suryanarayan Dulla in connection with the death of second-year student Sahil Wakode. Two other individuals have been named as unidentified accused in the FIR, while the investigation has been transferred to the Mumbai Police Crime Branch, according to police sources.
Wakode died by suicide hours after he was allegedly caught using ChatGPT during an examination at IIT Bombay.

Wakode’s father has alleged that his son faced caste-based abuse, threats and harassment over a period of three months, allegedly at the direction of IIT Bombay Director Shireesh B. Kedare. These allegations are part of the complaint and will be subject to investigation.
Earlier, Wakode’s mother had also alleged that her son was subjected to harassment. She had said that he was “severely harassed” and called for justice.
The Crime Branch is now investigating the circumstances surrounding Wakode’s death and the allegations made by his family.
