PORVORIM: Burglars broke into a flat, three offices and two repair shops near the Mapusa Municipal Council building and decamped with cash of about Rs 66,000 and a CCTV receiver worth Rs 4,000 on Friday night.
The burglaries came to light on Saturday morning when the owners of the shops and offices had gone to open their premises.
According to Mapusa Police, burglars ransacked a flat and also broke into the offices of two advocates and a goldsmith’s workshop located at St Anthony building. They also targeted another advocate’s office and a sewing machine repair shop at a building behind Mapusa Clinic.
Mapusa Police said the items stolen included cash of Rs 47,000 and some cheques from the office of advocate Tariano Fernandes, cash of Rs 4,000 and some cheques from the office of advocate Rudraji Parsekar, cash of Rs 15,000 from the sewing machine repair shop belonging to Ravindra Marinekar and a CCTV receiver worth Rs 4,000 from the Omkar Gold workshop owned by Ajit Sangoldker.
Burglars also stole cheques from the office of advocate Nima Silveira, but could not found anything in the flat of Romario Gomes, as nobody was residing in the premises. A police dog squad was pressed into service but it could not obtain any clues. Mapusa Police informed that the burglars had used gas cutters to break open the shutters and locks.
