MARGAO: For the last two years the Nuvem Panchayat is unable to demolish an illegal kitchen and room constructed by one Jose Inacio Fernandes at Gorvotti Nuvem despite demolition orders from the Collector.
Following a complaint lodged against the construction, it was ordered to be demolished first on December 28, 2016. However, the demolition was not done as the police were not present on that occasion.
Subsequently, the demolition was fixed on November 17, 2017, but on November 16, 2017 the Maina Curtorim police wrote that they cannot provide security because of the meeting scheduled to be held by Popular Front of India.
The demolition was then scheduled on April 20, 2018 but did not take place again as this time the PWD workers with the JCB did not turn up.
Meanwhile, Nuvem Sarpanch Dr Breezy Barreto while pointing out that the issue had started before she was even elected to the panchayat and further revealed that Jose has already settled the matter with the landlord as he has purchased the property.
As for the illegal construction, she said, Jose has initiated the process of regularizing the same and the matter is now pending with the panchayat because of which the demolition is not being pursued at the moment.
