CURCHOREM: Curchorem police arrested a mother and son on Saturday for murdering their nephew/cousin at Xelvona-Curchorem.
According to Curchorem police the accused woman Shevanti (55) and her son Hemant Dessai (28) hit the deceased with a pick-axe behind the head after a quarrel over a property dispute.
As per the information given by the investigating officer PI Ravindra Dessai, the accused Hemant fled from the scene after the incident and is now absconding. The mother, who was at home, was arrested after the wife of the deceased complained to the police that her husband was assaulted by the duo on Friday. Police registered a complaint under Section 307 for attempt to murder.
“Soon after the fight seeing the condition of the deceased, neighbours shifted him to Curchorem Primary Health Centre, Kakoda, Curchorem from where he was taken to Hospicio Hospital, Margao. Since his condition was very serious he was being taken to Goa Medical College (GMC) Bambolim but he died on the way,” informed PI Dessai.
Later the case was registered Under Section 302 as the woman accused has confessed the crime. She was remanded to 5 days police custody by the JMFC, Quepem. “The body has been preserved at GMC for a post mortem.” said PI Dessai.
Meanwhile a resident of Bihar Rajivrangan Thakur was arrested by the police for stealing tipper truck of the complainant from the resident of Badigal, Dhodem-Panchwadi.
Soon after lodging the complaint, police swung into action and succeeded locating the truck with the help of GPS and arrested the culprit and the truck recovered at near the Pernem border.
Investigating officer PSI Sanit Kavlekar said that case has been registered Under Section 379 of IPC and the accused has been remanded for 14 days judicial custody by the JMFC, Quepem.
