PONDA: Fed up with the constant power shortage issues in their villages, the residents from Kavlem, Wadi Talavlim and Durbhat Agapur panchayats along with Ramnathi locals rushed to the Power department’s office at Kavlem and gheraod the staff about the frequent fluctuations in power supply.
The locals demanded that the Power Minister intervene and find a permanent solution to these problems, which they claim have been unattended to for years.
They were annoyed to find officials on leave but other office staff assured to look into their grievances and put the matter before the head office. The staff and linesmen on duty pointed out that there has been an additional load on transformers with the increase in population. They said they are doing their best to try and solve the power shortage issue.
“Despite complaining for many years, none of our problems are being addressed, “added Santosh Ramanthkar.
“This is affecting young children and senior citizens who are unable to get sleep as the heat is unbearable,” said Prashant Naik.
The locals called for replacing of old power lines, installing high capacity transformers and other related equipment. They also complained that no one responds to the power department’s phones whenever they call to complain. Due to this, they are forced to travel four to ten kms just to file their complaint. Locals further called for the landline phones to be disconnected if they are not being, given that the phone bills are paid for using tax payers money.
