VASCO: The residents of Headland Sada in Mormugao along with four Councillors from Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) have feared of a serious law and order situation, if the concerned authorities make any attempts to dismantle the temporary shed used by the residents for worshipping Lord Ganesha and for promoting other religious activities.
According to the information, following complaint from a credible source that the illegalities including gambling activities are taking place in a temporary shed near Sai Baba Temple at Headland Sada junction, Deputy Collector Mormugao Mahadev Araundekar on October 10, 2017 wrote to the Chief Officer Agnelo A Fernandes to remove the partition/enclosures surrounding the said temporary structure. Following a letter from Araundekar, MMC CO recently sent his team to inspect the site and it was decided to remove the partitions on November 1, 2017 (Wednesday).
Taking serious note of the same the aggrieved residents on Monday met Araundekar as well as Chief Officer Agnelo A Fernandes and informed both the officials and appraised them about the activities in the said temporary shed. They further alleged that the local MLA Milind Naik have been using government machineries against them only because they worked against the MLA in the last Assembly polls.
The residents claimed that they are aware of the fact that complaint against the temporary religious shed was made by Naik with “wrong and baseless” allegations and if authorities make any attempt to dismantle the temporary shed then the consequences of the same would be serious as large number of Headland Sada residents are ready to come out on streets.
“A delegation of residents along with MMC councillors today met me with their demand to save the structure. They said that though whole of Sada area is having illegal structures but why administration is trying to target the temporary shed which is been used for religious purpose. Since a letter has been sent to MMC we will wait and see what action MMC will take,” Arundekar told reporters after meeting the aggrieved residents.
Chief Officer MMC Agnelo A Fernandes claimed that the action against illegal temporary shed was proposed following letter from deputy collector Mormugao.
“Though we had prepared our squad for the removal of partition/enclosures surrounding to the said temporary structure however since the residents along with the four MMC Councillors appraised me about the situation and even claimed that no illegal activities takes place inside the said structure and the letter sent by Deputy Collector is factually incorrect. They also requested me not to go ahead with any action until further inquiry in the matter is done. I have received their representation and hence a decision has been taken to defer the demolition of partition/enclosures surrounding to the said temporary structure” Fernandes told reporters after meeting the residents.
