VASCO: With an aim to create a secure space for children in schools, the Mormugao Municipal Council on Monday issued safety guidelines to all the schools operating under its jurisdiction.
A joint meeting in this regard has been fixed on November 7, with the directions to the school managements to attend the same with action taken report. According to MMC CO Agnelo A Fernandes, the safety of students in the school is of prime importance and hence the council will see to it that all schools follow mandatory guidelines to ensure students’ safety. Therefore, MMC wants to check how far the schools under its jurisdiction are complying with the safety guidelines. He said that he has asked all schools to formulate students’ protection policy.
“As per the guidelines, the school principals along with the management committees and the staff are supposed to ensure safety audits in their respective schools, as per standard safety norms.”
“Besides providing basic infrastructure to the students I have asked the schools to ensure strict compliance of separate toilets for boys, girls and staff. I have also directed the schools to install CCTV cameras and that identity proof of visitors while entering or leaving the school premises be checked and recorded in separate register. Similarly, directions such as strict compliance of SC guidelines on school buses, action on Blue Whale game challenge, constitution of Vishaka Committee etc. have been issued and we are hopeful that school managements will attend the meeting with the compliance report,” Fernandes added.

MMC assures to put in place fire hydrant system in municipal market
The Chief Officer Agnelo A Fernandes assured to rectify the dilapidated fire hydrant system in municipal market at Vasco. A joint site inspection in this regard was held. Fernandes informed that during the inspection it was seen that all the hydrants in municipal market are not working properly and there is no proper water supply connected to these fire hydrants. “Since water supply to the hydrants is very important I will ensure that the same gets 24/7 water supply. Similarly, these hydrants are not connected and one of the hydrants was fixed at the entrance and hence we have decided to shift the same to another location. I will see to it that these fire hydrants are made functional soon,” he added.
