MAPUSA: A dispute over 200 square metres of comunidade property at Karaswada Mapusa led to one person, Kalim Shaikh losing his life in a fight early Thursday morning.
The property dispute between brothers – Mohmmad Ali and Aukat Mohmmad – who are scrap dealers was going on for the last couple of months.
The property was in possession of Mohmmad Ali (52) for the past 40 years but on January 12, 2016 the deputy collector passed an order and gave possession of the property to the younger brother Aukat. However, Ali challenged the order in the sessions court and brought a stay on it on January 22, 2016, leading to a series of arguments and petty fights between the brothers. Ali’s family said that a series of complaints had been made to the local police but no action was initiated.
As per locals in Karaswada the fight started at around 1.30 am on Thursday when Aukat came to Ali’s residence and called his son Khalid Mohmmad outside the house. The moment Khalid stepped out he was attacked by five persons including his uncle Aukat and Aukat’s four brothers-in-law.
Herald spoke to Khalid who has his left hand and leg badly injured and fractured is presently undergoing treatment at GMC Bambolim. He said he can remember that five persons attacked him. “Some of my friends who were in a neighbouring restaurant came to help me but they were also attacked by my uncle and his brothers-in-law,” Khalid told Herald.
Hearing the noise three of Khalid’s brothers, one of whom is a minor, Rashid and Shahid Siddhqui intervened in the fight and attacked Aukat and his men.
In the scuffle one Kalim Shaikh was critically stabbed and died. Kalim is one of Aukat’s brothers-in-law.
According to locals and the police, choppers, iron roads and pipes were used in the attack, which witnesses say was planned by Aukat. Another of Aukat’s brothers-in-law has also been seriously injured, as he was stabbed in the skull and is undergoing treatment at GMC.
Sumit Fadte and Ajay Shinde who came to help Khalid have also been admitted in GMC. Both have sustained serious injuries but are out of danger.
Mapusa PI Tushar Lotlikar is investigating the case in which almost eight accused have been booked under Sections 504, 506 (II), 323, 307, 302 and 427 of the IPC.
Superintendent of Police North Goa Umesh Gaonkar said that Section 120 B can be added and investigations are on. He mentioned that other Sections can be added or modified depending on how the investigation progresses.
Police have arrested Mohmmad Ali (52), his wife Hamidun Nisa (45), a minor, Rashid Mohmmad (17) Shahid Sidhqui, Ajay Shinde, Sumit Fadte and Khalid Mohmmad in the case.
Of the eight accused, three – Ajay, Sumit and Khalid – have been admitted in GMC. Khalid reportedly stabbed Kalim who died.
Interestingly the fight took place in front of the two brothers. Aukat who is a resident of Colvale and who had come with his brothers-in-law planning to attack Khalid has not been booked by the police.
