Vessels to ply via Aguada sand bar
PANJIM: The Aguada sand bar was closed for all vessels, barges with effect from 12 am, May 21 by Captain of Ports. However the department shall grant permission to ply vessels from May 21 to 28 to those who have applied for it. All owners, masters, crew, fishing vessels are required to exercise extra caution while navigating through the said areas as the navigational buoys in the rivers Mandovi and Zuari have been withdrawn. Extra watch-keeper has to be on duty.

Overtaking of vessels, barges from Mandovi bridges to mouth of Mandovi River is prohibited. All inland vessels, crafts should keep clear of ferry-boats at ferry crossings.
Blood donation camp held
PANJIM: Wilfred D’Sa, Nuvem ZP member, organised a blood donation camp at Nuvem through the Hospicio Blood Bank, Margao. Dr S Desai and her technical team conducted the camp at which 37 donors from Nuvem voluntarily donated blood. Joanita welcomed the team and donors and Amancio Fernandes explained the importance of blood donation. Sarpanch Reuben, Wilfred D’Sa, ZP member, panchas, Eustaquio, Conceicao and local organizers, Amancio, Romy Goes proposed the vote of thanks.
Fellowships in art conservation
PANJIM: The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Stichting Restauratie Atelier Limburg with the support of the Ministry of Culture, GoI and the Andrew W Mellon Foundation are offering 16 Fellowships to Indian citizens engaged in conservation of sculpture, paintings and objects.
The fellowships are designed to broaden the experience of conservators currently working in art and cultural heritage museums and institutions in India. They will be for a period of 3 to 6 months each and spaced out over a two-year period commencing on or around October 1 and concluding in September 2015.
Stipend for each fellowship will be provided to cover rent, food and other living expenses. Details and application procedure is available on the website of Directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Goa (www.artandculture.goa.nic.in) and Ministry of Culture, GoI (www.indiaculture.nic.in)
World Telecommunication Day
PANJIM: On the occasion of World Telecommunication Day on May 17, the Institution of Engineers (India), Goa State Centre organized a technical seminar on the subject ‘Housing and Maintenance of a website’ at Goa Science Centre, Miramar.
The seminar deliberated on the aspects of building and maintenance of websites and provided a forum for gaining knowledge, exchange of information and experiences. More than 50 delegates consisting of engineers, professors, teachers and officials from government as well as private sector attended. The programme was inaugurated by Subhash Phaldessai, MLA of Sanguem constituency and Chairman of Goa Info Tech Corporation Ltd. He enjoined upon all participants to make use of the latest for improvement of society. He also expressed his concern on the brain drain in Goa due to lack of opportunities in IT sector and stressed the need for creation of IT Infrastructure in Goa.
Mahila meet held at Cortalim
CORTALIM: Goa Panchayat Mahila Shakti Abhiyan (GPMSA), Mormugao Block, recently organised a seminar on ‘Knowledge is Power’ at Curpavado Chapel hall.
Addressing the seminar, Cortalim MLA and Minister Alina Saldanha encouraged the locals to avail the knowledge from the seminars which would help them in building their careers.
In his speech, guest of honour and Nuvem MLA Mickky Pacheco congratulated GPMSA for holding the seminar and assured his assistance.
South Goa ZP Chief Nelly Rodrigues called for more empowerment to women.
Prof Sonal Sardessai spoke on various government schemes like social welfare, RDA, Tribal Welfare, while Aruna Wagh spoke on women empowerment, child abuse and parenting.
Others who attended the meeting included Cortalim ZP Cinthia D’Silva, Mormugao BDO Manuel Baretto and Sancoale ZP Aparna Naik, sarpanchas and panchas of Mormugao Block.
Earlier, Cortalim Panch and GPMSA Mormugao Block President Anita Kenkre welcomed the gathering.
RESTRICTED water
Due to proposed electrical shutdown by Electricity department on May 26, from 9 am to 5 pm in Pernem taluka, there will be restricted water supply to the entire taluka of Pernem from May 26 to 28. The consumers are kindly requested to bear the inconvenience caused.
