BELGAUM: The All India Motor Trade Congress (AIMTC) on Saturday decided to keep the present nationwide boycott of transportation of good to Goa in abeyance, after being assured that the controversial Goa’s entry tax will be raised at the BJP executive meeting in Goa in the first week of June.
In a press note, AIMTC President Bal Malkit Singh stated that a delegation of AIMTC members had met senior BJP President Rajnath Singh and senior leader Arun Jaitley at New Delhi in connection with the Goa entry tax.
“We requested them to intervene in the matter and in response, they have assured us to use their good offices to impress upon Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and even taking up the matter of the Goa Entry Tax in forthcoming BJP Executive Committee meeting to be held at Goa in the first week of June,” the press note stated.
“On the emphatic assurances given by the senior BJP leaders and their request to end the current stalemate, AIMTC had decided to put the present nationwide boycott of Goa by non-Goan goods and passenger vehicle in abeyance, pending the outcome of this issue in the BJP executive meeting,” the press note added.
