PANJIM: Though the three-day BJP national executive meeting in Goa starting June 7 will discuss the ‘strategy and effective nationwide campaign’ for the Lok Sabha polls, it will not discuss the selection of the Prime Ministerial candidate of the party, national general secretary J P Nadda told media persons Saturday.
Addressing a press conference, BJP’s national general secretary J P Nadda said ‘the national executive will discuss about the UPA government failure along with discussing the overall political scenario of the country’.
Nadda said that the meeting will also deliberate on strategies for LS polls.
“Various strategies are being worked out by the party as far as LS polls are concerned…but those are internal matters and cannot be disclosed,” he said adding ‘the executive committee is not the concerned body to decide on Prime Ministerial candidate’.
Responding to a question, the party man said that the decision on PM candidate would be taken by the Parliamentary board and not by the national executive committee, although PM candidate is a part of poll strategy.
The executive scheduled for June 8-9 will be preceded by a meeting of the party’s office-bearers, state presidents and organizing secretary on June 7. The meeting would be held at Hotel Marriot.
Nadda said that around 350 delegates from 35 different states and union territories would be participating in the meeting, which would be presided over by party president Rajnath Singh.
Party’s senior leaders including L K Advani, Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Nitin Gadkari will be present. All former party chiefs, chief ministers of BJP ruled states, state presidents, party’s leader of opposition in various states, organizing secretaries and other office bearers would be attending the executive meet.
Nadda said that the meeting would focus on failure of the UPA government, slow down of the economy, inflation, corruption and attack on constitutional bodies. He informed that the meeting will also work on how to further intensify the protest against the Congress-led government at the Centre.
“BJP feels that UPA has no moral right to continue in power. We are going to highlight the need for good governance and that BJP is the only alternative,” the party man said.
Nadda stated that the national executive will also discuss the good work done by governments in BJP ruled states. “The contribution of BJP ruled states to national GDP is the highest,” he said.
