MARGAO: Goa and Arunachal Pradesh are separated by thousands of miles. One is known for its golden sands, the other known as the Abode of God, living above the clouds.
Yet, football brought the two States closer to each other as Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki descended at Navelim as the chief guest of the Gold-Silver trophy football finals on Sunday organised by Navelim Sporting Club. And, Tuki, while extending an invitation to the Navelim football team to play a couple of football matches in his home State, has underlined the need for both Goa and Arunachal Pradesh to bridge the geographical distance between the two States through cooperation and coordination in the fields of sports and tourism.
“Arunachal Pradesh is blessed with immense natural beauty, colourful tribes, unknown and unseen in any other part of the world. In the sporting area, we have a lot of football talent. On the other hand, Goa is known for its hospitality, because of the large heart of Goans, their rich culture. Goa today has become the much-sought after holiday destination in the country and world. Let us coordinate and cooperate in the field of sports and tourism and bridge the geographical distance between us by bonding in friendship and cooperation”, Nabam said.
AICC general secretary Luizinho Faleiro, who was instrumental in inviting the Arunachal Pradesh for the football finals, said that Goa and Arunachal Pradesh share a lot of common things.
“We love football, they also love football. People of both States love music and both States are blessed with varied culture and nature”, Faleiro said.
Faleiro further said “I am in charge of the seven North Eastern States, also known as the seven sisters. They are the seven jewels in the country’s crown. I have seen lot of places, but Arunachal Pradesh is the most beautiful place”, he said, while extending an invitation to Arunachal Pradesh CM to send football teams from his State to play a few matches in Navelim.
