Woman jumps off Mandovi bridge, dies

Returning from medical facility, she opened car door and leapt from the bridge

PANJIM: A 35-year-old woman committed suicide on Wednesday afternoon by jumping from the Mandovi bridge.
According to police Vidhya Prabhu, from Moira Bardez, opened the door of the car in which she was traveling with her family and jumped into the river. She fell on the iron pipes below the bridge that are being used for construction of the new Mandovi bridge. 
“By the time we reached on the spot she had been taken to hospital by ambulance, but she was brought dead to the GMC,” Panjim Police said.
The woman was traveling with her husband and four-year-old child and they were returning from a medical facility at Bambolim. She opened the car door and immediately jumped from the bridge, police said quoting statements given by the family. 
Police said that the woman was undergoing treatment for the last three months from a private doctor in Mapusa but recently the family had referred her to the facility in Bambolim. 
She leaves behind two sons aged four and eight. The post-mortem on the body will be conducted on Thursday at GMC.
