PANJIM: A week after the Supreme Court allowed the Centre to notify the Mhadei Water Dispute Tribunal (MWDT) award, the State, according to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), has filed an application for interim relief restraining Karnataka from carrying on any activity or construction on its project on the Mhadei river.

“The Supreme Court has agreed to take up the matter for hearing on March 2, 2020,” the CMO said.
Senior Adv Mukul Rohotgi mentioned the matter before the bench presided over by Justice D Y Chandrachud for an urgent hearing.
Last week, in a major setback to the State, the SC had allowed the Centre to notify the MWDT award on Karnataka’s plea. Goa had not objected to the notification of the award.
However, CM Dr Pramod Sawant had said that the State will seek a stay on construction activity till the matter is decided by SC and MWDT.
