Margao: The slow pace of work on the blocked Rawanfond to Navelim road due to heavy digging has irked Navelim residents who have complained that this was a crucial road and has led to massive traffic congestion near the church. Commuters have been using the side mud road to go to Aquem or proceed to Navelim and have complained of having to face great difficulty.
“Our road – Navelim Church to Ravanfond, is still incomplete in spite of the last date, 30th May having elapsed. I expected the work to go on at a faster pace. On the contrary, not a single worker is on site today. Schools were supposed to be re-opened but fortunately have been postponed to the 8th of June. Are the contractors and authorities serious about completing the roads before the onset of the monsoons,” questioned Navelim Civic and Consumer Forum convenor, Joseph Vaz.
He added that the contractor was given time to complete everything by 15th May but it was later extended to 30th May. “We were assured that repairs including tarring would be finished by 30th May. Monsoons are expected soon and this area always gets flooded during heavy rains. In spite of all this, no workers were present today to carry out the work, which means they are not serious,” he said.
This issue is expected to be raised along with all other roads that have been dug up by agencies like JICA, BSNL, Electricity department, PWD and WRD that have been asked to attend a review meeting with the Salcete deputy collector, Ajit Panchwadkar and the Margao Municipal Council on Friday.
