Goa beats national average of young voter registration by almost double!

PANJIM: The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC)  S Y Quraishi   said that Goa has exceeded the national average of young voter registration while addressing media on Thursday here. While the national average of registration of young voters has been  40  per cent,  in Goa it is as high as 70 per cent. 

CEC officials were in Goa to review and examine the poll preparations in the State where elections are due March 3.

CEC said  their  initiatives in covering  youth  in the age  group of  18-21  have yielded  results as registration  in this age  group has increased  from  10-12  per cent to  40 per cent  where as in Goa  it has reached 70 per cent.

On January  25, 3.80 crore voter identity cards were distributed in the country.   CEC initiative was started after conducting research why voters in the certain age group refrained from enrolling for a EPIC card.
