VALPOI: A police constable was arrested on Wednesday night on charges of murdering a 51-year-old distillery owner in Padoshem-Sattari.
According to Valpoi PI Sanjay Dalvi, the police constable, Pratap Sawant, was involved in a quarrel with Suresh Sawant of Padoshem at his cashew distillery unit in the village on March 28. In the ensuing quarrel, Pratap is alleged to have brutally assaulted Suresh.
The victim was then referred to the GMC hospital at Bambolim, where he died of injuries late Wednesday evening.
Valpoi Police later booked an offence of murder against Pratap Sawant and arrested him on Wednesday night under Section 302 IPC. Further investigations are in progress.
